Jon Hoefer
Founding Brother
Runner in 2019, 2020*, 2022, 2023 and 2024
My name is Jon Hoefer and I am a proud “Founding Brother” of Team Mark. I am a 1991 graduate of Syracuse University and a member of the NY Delta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, where I met Asher, Hunter, Peterson, Walsh, Rowe and my “Big Brother,” Mark Kourey. It rocked our world to hear that Mark was battling prostate cancer in 2011, and even more overwhelming to hear that he, cancer and all, was independently raising critical funds for MSK by running the 2018 NYC Marathon. In 2019, the six of us very quickly decided to jump on the band wagon and join Mark and FRED’S TEAM and run the TCS NYC Marathon … together.
Among the seven of us, we have represented FRED’S TEAM and the NYC Marathon (one year virtually during COVID), every year since: 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and now we have a team of 27 for 2024. These are all the marathons I have run: Disney (2007), Chicago (2007), NYC (2019), St. Pete Virtual (2021), NYC (2022), NYC (2023).
Sadly, we lost a key member, and the patriarch of our team, in 2023. Mark Kourey passed away on May 10, 2023. His memory, determination, intoxicating humor and incredible grit lives on … as Team Mark continues to grow and to inspire other runners to be a part of this amazing cause with FRED’STEAM and MSK.
Personally, I live in St. Petersburg, FL with my wife, Kristen, and our 8-year-old pup, Monte. We have two older boys: Dominic, who currently lives in Dallas working as a consultant at BCG, and Evan, who is a rising senior as a Musical Theatre major at the University of Michigan.
Keeping with the power of duplicate numbers, my fundraising goal for 2024 is $4,444 and my race time goal is: 4:44.
Go, Team Mark! We Got This!!!
